When I was in Grade 12 (Standard 10) and had to think about life after school, all I knew was that I wanted to work with people. The two careers that resonated most with me at the time was law and psychology. After considering law and psychology, I did what most people do and chose the career with the bigger paycheque – law. I realised early on in my first year that law was not meant for me and switched to psychology from my second year onwards.

So, if I studied psychology, why am I not a psychologist? During my journey, whilst still studying, I worked at a busy psychological practice in Johannesburg and discovered something called psychometrics. At that moment, the stars aligned, and I heard a choir of voices sing “Aaaaaaaaaa!”. I knew then that this was what I wanted to do. Fast forward a few years (as well as husband, 3 children and a lifetime in Europe), and here I am today, working in the field of psychometrics – living my dream!

I am a Psychometrist Independent Practice and registered with the HPCSA. I completed by BA Psychology degree as well as my Honors in Psychology through UNISA and completed the BPsych Equivalent course with Stellenbosch University. I completed my internship through Awerbuck/Schickerling PLC as well as Dr. Emily Pienaar, both situated in Stellenbosch. I took the huge leap to open my own practice in July 2020, during Covid-19. My office is situated in the picturesque Stellenbosch.

I have a passion for teenagers and am curious how they think and how they perceive their world. How do they make important decisions? What are their dreams and their fears? I therefore specialise in Subject Choice (Grades 8 and 9) and Career Guidance (Grades 10, 11 and 12) and recently added study methods for high schoolers to the list.

Added to my passion for teens, I also enjoy working with students and adults. These sessions are usually more holisitic in approach as we also look at other important facets, even though we make us of standardised tests.

A Psychometrist is a psychological professional with special expertise in the use of acknowledged and registered psychological tests to objectively measure knowledge and abilities, personality, interest, attitudes and educational performance.
